Happy New Year

ELEVEN THINGS YOU CAN DO TO MAKE THIS THE BEST YEAR YET!

1. Think of what you can do to help others. Doing something good for others with no thought of reward or return is real service. If you help others from your spirit/your soul, it’s always a win-win situation. Make this a daily practice.

2. Consciously BREATHE.  If you can control your breath, you can control your mind. Taking long deep breaths throughout the day can change your mood and your attitude for the better.  You can take notice throughout the day of how many times you are NOT breathing.  We often hold our breath when we are nervous or have to make a decision.  If you have this awareness, try breathing deeply when you are under stress or have an important decision to make and see what happens.

3. Move the body.  Walk, dance, exercise, do yoga, do something.  If you don’t move the body, the energy will get stuck.  When the energy gets stuck, it causes discomfort, disease, and emotional issues.  In fact, if you feel “bad”, the best thing you can do is to move the body.

4. Think positive.  Start to track your thoughts.  Every time you have a negative thought, catch yourself and replace that thought with a positive thought.  It takes some practice but eventually you will find that you just might get happier.

5. Try not to indulge in negative demoting habits.  You can change your habits slowly and surely if you make an effort to indulge in positive promoting habits.

6. An Attitude of Gratitude will get you a lot of bang for your buck.  Try looking at your life from a perspective of being grateful for whatever comes your way.  This is a LIFE CHANGING tool.  There will always be problems, challenges, and obstacles but you can be more effective in how you handle them.  You can become more neutral, less reactive by raising your consciousness, taking a higher perspective, and having an attitude of gratitude. When you start to see whatever comes your way as an opportunity instead of a challenge, you will begin to experience REAL PROSPERITY and HAPPINESS.

7. Nourish your body with healthy food preferably organic and fresh.  If you are not a vegetarian, try to eat less animal products and more plant products. Try to eat to live, not live to eat.  Drink lots of clean water and when you eat, sit, enjoy, and relax.  “So there is no disease. It doesn’t matter if you give medicine; you can give food instead.  It will heal. You can give water. It will heal.  Some spiritual healers take a glass of water, put their hand on it, chant a mantra over it, and hand it to you. You can call it quackery, but it works.” – Yogi Bhajan

8.  Cultivate positive and healthy relationships.  Toxic relationships can literally make you sick.  Enjoy the company of people who bring out the best in you, not the worst.  Laugh, lighten up, enjoy yourself and the magical people in your life.

9. We need goals to have them happen.  Be clear about them.  Be sure of what you want and make sure you’ve got everything covered.  For example if you want a house, make sure the money to keep up the house is included in qualifying your goal.

10. Try injecting MANTRA into your life.  The sound current of a mantra can remove negative thoughts, clean the energy of your living or work space, improve your health, improve and change the dynamic in relationships, reset brain patterns, help to bring awareness and clarity to your life and many other wonderful things.  The mantra elevates consciousness through its meaning, the sound itself, by its rhythm, tone and the reflexology of the tongue.
A simple mantra you can add to your breath is SAT NAM.  Chanting this mantra awakens the Soul and it means Truth is My Identity.  Try mentally chanting Sat on the inhale and Nam on the exhale when you are going about your day, when you are walking, working, being.   If you would like further information on mantra, please contact me at raghubirkk@gmail.com. You can also play recorded mantras in your home or at work all the time.  A superb recommended practice is to sleep to a recorded mantra throughout the night.  The volume doesn’t need to be loud, just audible.

11.  We are now in the Aquarian Age and we have new energies and frequencies to harmonize with.  In order to live our lives to the fullest we need a healthy body, strong nervous system, a powerful electromagnetic field, and balanced and open chakras.  We need mental and emotional flexibility, intelligent and compassionate detachment, and an open and activated heart center.  We need to be sensitive and intuitive and we need to be strong and clearheaded.  Kundalini Yoga and Meditation produces all of this in a relatively short amount of time.  When you are feeling powerful and in command, you are more capable of uplifting and helping others.
Have a terrific 2013 and remember that YOU have the birthright to be HAPPY and HEALTHY and PROSPEROUS and that no one can take that away from you.

The Wonderful Regeneration of YOU

Sat Nam Everyone,
This Tuesday night December 11 at 7pm, you'll have the opportunity to do a lot of good for yourself. If you are feeling overwhelmed and frustrated, or if you feel lately as if you're a hamster in a wheel...you're not alone.  FYI this class will work like a charm; helping you to relax and re-circulate your energy to give your body a new life.

How do we achieve this?  By working directly on the Pituitary Gland which will recharge you, deepen your energy reserve, and boost your intuitive powers.  You can exalt your own self with these ancient exercises and meditations...and leave the class feeling renewed and full of energy.

This time of year is always supercharged; with the winter solstice approaching, all the "holidays", and with the addition of 12-12-12, the super crystal activation date coming up in two days (watch my teacher Harijiwan's video below)...everything is intensified.  Also bear in mind that the Mayan Calendar "resets" after 12-21-12, the last day of the Mayan Calendar.  Many have thought of this date throughout history as the end of the world...and yes, it is the end of the world as we know it.  Big changes are in store for us all, and the changes are POSITIVE and consciousness-altering.  You can be a part of the positive transformation!!

We just left the Piscean Age. We are NOW in the Age of Aquarius; an age of higher consciousness, awareness, and heart-centered living.

“The time has come not to search for God, but to be God. Time is not to worship God, but to trust and dwell in the working God." ~Yogi Bhajan

1. Recognize that the other person is you.
2. There is a way through every block.
3. When the time is on you, start, and the pressure will be off.
4. Understand through compassion or you will misunderstand the times.
5. Vibrate the Cosmos. The Cosmos shall clear the path.

These are the 5 sutras to live by that Yogi Bhajan has given us for the Aquarian Age.

Tomorrow's class is the LAST CLASS OF 2012. We will resume after the holidays on January 8th.
Classes are by donation ($15 recommended). 7-8:30 pm and Yogi tea is served after class.  Bring  a mat, blanket or cushion for sitting and introduce a friend to Kundalini Yoga!  Take note of our NEW IMPROVED WEBSITE!

Regenerate Your Nerves with Shabd Kriya

Tonight at 7pm we're going to explore the relaxing, nerve regenerating and mind expanding meditation, Shabd Kriya.  It's a wonderful way to experience the beauty and magic of Kundalini Yoga and also to learn how to get a good night's sleep!  If you ever want to put things in perfect balance, feel calm and contained and at peace...this is the meditation for you. Join me tonight as we do some gentle yoga and then meditate using the beautiful Shabd Kriya.

What It Will Do for You
The best time to practice this kriya is every night before bed. If it is practiced regularly your sleep will be deep and relaxed and the nerves will regenerate. After a few months, the rhythm of your breath as you sleep will be subconsciously regulated in the same rhythm! You will think better, work better, share better, love better, and fight better. This rhythmic mantra will eventually progress so that even in daily activities you will automatically hear the mantra and take on the breath rhythm.
Mystically the effect is understood in numerology. The number 11 is the number of infinity in the world of material and the conqueror of the physical realm. The number 22 is the infinite number of longing and mastery of the mental realm. The breath is regulated in 22 beats and gives the mind the power to stretch to the infinite.
There cannot be enough praise of this meditation and its growth promoting effect on the personality. It gives radiance and the radiance gives patience which is the first condition of real Love. In Love you give without attention to all the mistakes of another as the sun gives light and warmth to all people. The incorporation of this practical universality in the personality comes with the disciplined practice of Shabd Kriya.

How to Do It
A) Sit in any comfortable posture with the spine straight. Place the hands in the lap, palms up with the right hand over the left. (A 1) The thumbs are together and point forward. (A 2) Focus the eyes on the tip of the nose, the eyelids half-closed. Inhale in 4 equal parts, mentally vibrating the mantra SA-TA-NA-MA. Hold the breath, vibrating the mantra 4 times for a total of 16 beats. Exhale in 2 equal strokes projecting mentally “Wahe Guru.” Continue for 15 to 62 minutes.
taught April 1' 1974,, from Kundalini Mediation Manual for intermediate students

Classes are always by donation ($15 recommended). Yogi tea is served afterwards.  Our website is down for "reconstruction" so if you need to know the address, please email at raghubirkk@gmail.com.  Also it is helpful if you RSVP  to this address.  Thank you.

The Art of Breathing

"You need fifteen breaths a minute; that's what you normally take.  And when you are excited, emotional, drugged, sexual, sensual, excited, whatever, you go up to twenty-four.  Sometimes you go to thirty-one, something like that.  It's very simple mathematics.  Suppose you have enough breath of life at the rate of one breath for one year, so you take one breath a minute, you can live fifteen years.  Supposed you have breath of life for one hundred years. At fifteen breaths a minute, at that rate, you can live 1500 years.  That's how yogis extend their life -- by practicing one breath a minute.  When you practice one breath a minute, then you become Pavan guru -- you become the light and knowledge of the prana, and then you know the universe, the universe knows you. " - Yogi Bhajan, The Master's Touch

Classes at Eagle Rock Kundalini Center resume with Tuesday nights at 7pm.  I am happy to be opening my door again, TONIGHT,  to East side yogis who benefit from getting together in a cozy and friendly environment to do gentle yoga and deep meditation. Yogi tea is served after class and there is always a  long gong relaxation/meditation at the end of every class.

Tonight's class is all about the Art of Breathing.  When you control the breath, you control everything. When you find yourself challenged in any way,  the first thing to do is to get control of your breath.  Your breath determines how you act (or don't act)  in any given situation,  When you need to calm down, you go to your breath.  When you need to be focused and "on point", you turn to your breath.   You use the breath if you need to expand your presence. Your projection, your caliber, your self-esteem, your everything is connected to your breath.  In other words, the quality of your life is directly dependent on the quality of your breath.

Twenty some odd years ago when I first began to take Yoga seriously,  a friend of mine and I signed up for private lessons with a local teacher.  The first class we were told to lie down on our backs and practice long deep breathing; Ujjayi breathing. Ujjayi is a diaphragmatic breath in which you first fill the lower belly, then the lower rib cage, and then the upper chest and throat.

After 20 minutes, the teacher came into the living room and checked up on us.  "How's it going?" Then she returned to the kitchen and back to what she was doing. After about 45 minutes she said everything looked good and that we were free to go and she'd see us the following week.   The following week, even though we looking forward to starting the "real" yoga practice,  we were instructed to do the same.  Two private classes learning how to do that one breath alone; that's how important learning how to breathe properly is with regard to the practice of yoga. That is learning the "real" yoga!

We won't be doing that tonight, but we WILL be practicing several kinds of pranayam (breath exercises) that will give you a better understanding of how the mind and the breath work together to bring you into a particular desired state of consciousness.  If you are planning to come, please eat lightly and bring a comfortable mat or blanket to sit on.  We'll be doing some light yoga, so wear comfortable clothing.

This is a donation class and $15 is the the recommended offering, but no one will be turned away for less.  I hope to see you tonight at 7.

WAHE GURU - An expression of the Etheric

ETHER

" If a person has the akasha tattva (the etheric element) predominating, then he will be the happiest, most carefree being in the world. Yet, the operations of the akasha tattva are not perceptible to our sense organs. "-Yogi Bhajan

The ether tattva/element is without form. It connects all of us. Our collective small selves all join as one through the element of ether. It corresponds with the Fifth Chakra which is located in the throat.  The fifth chakra is about speaking the truth, but it also includes the ears and hearing the truth.
Ether is the tattva of the teacher.  When we speak the truth, we bring the subtle vibration of the Shabd into manifestation...  and through the vibration of sound, we bring the truth into our material reality.

"The operations of a particular tattva comprise the entire body-system. There are main centers as well as subsidiary centers of operation. The chief center of operation of the akasha tattva (ether) is the throat—the space between the collar-bone and the nape of the neck. This is the vyama-granthi region of the body, which comprises the following principal glands: thyroid, parathyroid, salivary, and tonsils. The essential secretions of these glands help mold our minds and keep them nourished. In vyama-granthi, sattva guna predominates. For this reason, a person with a supremacy of the vyama-granthi in his body possesses a mind in tune with the Supreme Consciousness. The vyama-granthi of females is much stronger than that of males. Therefore, in a woman we find that endearing qualities such as affection, love, unselfishness, and steadfastness are conspicuously present."-Yogi Bhajan

Chant Wahe Guru. Speak and be the living TRUTH.
WAHE is an expression of awe and ecstacy. GURU is the teacher...that which brings us from darkness into the light. WAHE GURU is the projection of the complete ecstatic awe in the presence of the Divine.  Wahe Guru is a trikutee mantra  which expresses the nature of GOD - the generating, organizing and delivering principles.  In Kundalini Yoga, WAHE GURU is the gurumantra which triggers the divine in YOU.

Tonight at 7, we will dive into the ethers.  Bring a mat, blanket, a friend and a donation ($15 recommended) for an evening of Kundalini yoga and meditation and Gong. For more info visit the website.

Sat nam,

“See the brotherhood of all mankind as the highest order of Yogis; conquer your own mind, and conquer the world. There is one awareness among all created beings. One who recognizes the One Lord among all beings does not talk of ego. All human beings have the light of the Lord and are the same. Only by subduing one’s pride and ego could one see this light in all.”  Guru Nanak

More Fireworks...

Our personality is dependent on which of the five gross elements predominates in our nature. The agni‐ granthi, or fire center, manifests through the spleen, liver, pancreas, and adrenal glands. Just as the heat of the sun makes life possible on Earth, the heat of the agni tattva sustains life in the body. The day this internal fire goes out means death to the individual as surely as this world would die if the sun refused to shine. Persons with a supremacy of this agni tattva are very vigorous, full of perseverance, and become untiring workers. They have a wonderful capacity for leadership and a directness of manner and speech.”
– © The Teachings of Yogi Bhajan, January 1, 1973

Sat Nam Everyone....
Last night I am sure many of you heard or saw fireworks...and as things are, we are working on the Fire Tattwa for tonight's class.

I have been away at Summer Solstice in the high desert north of Espanola on a sacred and powerful piece of land known as Ram Das Puri.  In such a place, where the heat and the dryness is so intense at times, you feel as though you are only a few miles from the sun.  Every year, for the last 5 years, a tattwa has dominated the program; this year's element was ETHER.  And just like ether, it's hard to describe what ensued.

Two years ago, FIRE was the "featured" element... and just like the summer solstice experience of 2010, tonight's planned class is going to pack a punch.

I'm paraphrasing here, but Yogi Bhajan said that the AGNI-GRANTHI or fire center has an enormous amount of power and just like fire, it can either cook for you or burn your house down. And as the digestive fire commands our digestive system, we can use this element to help us to fully digest life's experiences.

Fire transforms and it heals.  Naturally occurring forest fires remove undergrowth and stimulate seeds to burst open and take root. A similar thing happens inside of us.  We have the capacity for internal combustion that burns karma, fuels our momentum to thrive, and gives us access to our true power located in the third chakra.

The time is NOW for self-discipline, upping your practice, and setting boundaries.  It's no joke...everything is moving at a faster pace now and the times require an upgrade of your operating system.  Your Fire Tattwa, which is associated with the Third Chakra can give you the sustainability to move with the times and excel.

The third chakra is sometimes referred to as the WILL OF THE SPIRITUAL WARRIOR.   It is the center of personal power and commitment.  When you talk about inner strength, inner balance, and good health, you are talking about the Third Chakra in action (located in the Navel).  If you have digestive problems, little or no conviction to your beliefs, emotions, or wishes...then you need to work on your third chakra and fan the flames of your Fire tattwa.  If you have inner anger, greed, shame, despair and see obstacles in every direction, then working on this chakra/element is the place to start.

Tonight we'll be working on the third Chakra/Fire tattwa.  The navel center is your beginning --the first place through which you are fed. Your job is to accumulate energy in the navel point because it is your "reserve" power.  The Kundalini energy is initiated here through the movement of breath, prana, apana, and exercise and the energy ignites in what is referred to as "white heat". The energy is sent down to the first chakra and awakens the dormant Kundalini energy resting at the base of the spine.  And lastly, one of the most important aspects of this tattwa is that is a doorway to the HEART/AIR TATTWA...where higher consciousness begins.

Class begins promptly at 7, but no one will be turned away. Donation only ($15 recommended) and bring a mat, cushion, or blanket for support.  We will relax at the end with a long gong relaxation...but be prepared to stir the embers in you.  for more info visit www.eaglerockkundaliniyoga.com.

See you later,
Raghubir
